NDIS

What is the NDIA?

The NDIA is the National Disability Insurance Agency. It is a government agency, and its role is to implement and manage the NDIS and make sure people with disability continue to get the support they need.

Who will manage my NDIS plan?

There are 3 different ways you can manage your NDIS plan. You don’t have to choose only one of these options. You can use a combination. For example, you might self-manage some parts of your plan while the NDIA may look after other parts.

The three options are:

1. Your plan is managed by someone from the NDIA.

2. Your plan is managed by a Plan Manager.

3. You manage your NDIS plan.

Is transport covered under NDIS?

If you are not able to use public transport because of your disability, you may be able to get NDIS funding to cover transport such as taxis. If you previously received funding through a taxi subsidy scheme, the NDIA would also take this into account. The NDIS will not provide funding to carers or family members to transport a person with a disability to everyday commitments. The NDIS can also fund supports that help you build confidence and learn how to travel or use public transport independently. For example, if your goal is to get your driver’s licence, the NDIS may be able to support you to achieve this.

Who is eligible for NDIS?

Eligibility for the NDIS depends on a few different things such as:

Age: You need to be under 65 years at the time of your application.

Residency: You need to be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Protected Special Category Visa.

Disability: You must have a permanent disability that significantly affects how you can communicate, move, care for yourself, or manage your life.

Early Intervention: You might be eligible if early intervention would substantially improve your functioning, or delay or decrease a decline in functioning, for you or your child.

Can my family be included in the NDIS process?

Yes! You can invite family members to be a part of your planning process and really every step of the way. You might like your family members included a lot, or a little – the choice is yours.

Can I change my provider if I am not happy?

Yes, you can! If you are not happy with the disability service provider, you can change to make sure you are getting the support you need.

What is the difference between the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CSHP) and Home Care Packages (HCP)?

If you’re able to manage, but need support with a few tasks at home, you might be eligible for support through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

If you need many care and support services on an ongoing basis to help you live independently, a Home Care Package (HCP) may be more suitable. This will provide a package of care and services and go beyond what the CHSP can provide.

How do I get help at home?

Help at home can look different for different people. You might need help with shopping and cooking. Maybe you need some home modifications.
You can receive government-subsidised help at home through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, or through a Home Care Package. To find out which program you are eligible for, you need to apply for an assessment. Contact us to learn more about what kind of help we can provide to you.

Am I eligible for My Aged Care?

Eligibility is based on factors like your health, how you’re managing at home, and any support you currently receive. You may be eligible for aged care services if you have noticed a change in what you can do or remember, have been diagnosed with a medical condition or reduced mobility , experienced a change in family care arrangements, experienced a recent fall or hospital admission, and are 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people). To know for sure if you are eligible, you will need to have an assessment.
